Quelle aventure sur les catamarans aujourd’hui! L’île Noirmoutier. We left the school at 8 and drove for about an hour and a half to Fromentine. We all put our wetsuits, windbreakers and life jackets on before walking down to the water and listened as we were instructed how to use the catamarans. The instructor explained how each of the ropes on the boats are connected to the sails and how to steer the boat. Suddenly, it started pouring and we all huddled under the roof of a building and waited for the storm to pass. The boat operators came over and told us that sailing was canceled, but soon changed their minds and told us that those who really wanted to go, could. A group went with them and sailed for about an hour and the weather started to improve. Those who stayed back watched them from the beach. Three of us went on a 5 kilometer run on a bike path along the beach which was beautiful. Next, we headed across the bridge and drove to Noirmoutier-en-l'Île to a church where we ate our lunches in a big room filled with tables. Our next destination was a small salt farm in the Marais Salants of Noirmoutier where we learned how they collected the salt and process it. We were then allowed to buy some of the salt they made. Next we visited an oyster farm (huitre) and people were allowed to eat the oysters that they had collected fresh from the sea. People who tried them thought they were delicious, and very salty. One of the men who worked there explained the process to us as we saw how they collected the oysters on the beach. At 4 we got on the bus and returned to the school. It was a fun day! -par Anika Simonoff et Sofia Simonoff
